Mt. St. Helens in the background!

I run for cupcakes. I run for me. I run for mental clarity. And sometimes I climb mountains for frosted cinnamon rolls like the photo above. (They’re close to cupcakes, right?)

I am a runner, a writer, a lover of teeth, and an aspiring photographer. I, like many, am in love with life in the Pacific Northwest. I live firmly by the words ‘get outside.’ and loathe the thought of a run spent on a treadmill.

I ran track and cross country through middle school and high school. I was never the fast one, pudgy throughout middle school and plagued by sports-induced asthma. I ran through my late teens and early twenties as more of a catharsis, never more than a mile or two. Certainly not competitively.

I started training for my first half-marathon around the time this blog began, October 2012. Three years, 45 pounds, 12 half-marathons and 4 full marathons later, I can’t decide if it’s a passion or an addiction. I never intend to stop. Some days I love it, some days I hate it. If you’ve been a runner, you know what I’m talking about.

This round of training is focused on speed. And balance. And cupcakes.

Because…What would running be without them?

PS. My miss Lexi, the ‘we’ in We Run For Cupcakes, has replaced her love of running with other pursuits. Like falling madly in love, taking care of her fur baby, and planning a wedding. No big deal. I just hope she might come back to me someday…
